Athirapally is home to the magnificent waterfall in the Gods own country, Kerala. It is one of the finest waterfalls in whole India. Athirapally is often mentioned with Vazhachal which is another beautiful waterfall just 5 km away. And within this 5 km distance that separates Athirapally and Vazhachal, there is another waterfall named Chapra which is a seasonal waterfall.
These beautiful falls lay beside the forest in Chalakudy of Thrissur district. The path to the waterfall is lined by dense forest. It’s a 30 km distance from Chalakudy to Athirapally. This journey is going to be spellbound with the neighboring jungle and the cool forest wind. The 80-foot high waterfall is surrounded by greenish hill ranges and large rocks. The sound of the water falling down from this height sparkling water splashes all around could be heard even from a distance.
Athirapally and its nearby waterfalls are a great tourist attraction place in almost every season. In the heavy monsoons, it could get risky near the Athirapally waterfall and there will be certain restrictions. Right after the monsoon is the best time to visit this large waterfall in its full grandeur. Heavy water will be gloriously flowing, creating an uproar in the jungle. Also, the surrounding seasonal falls will be rich with flowing water. If you love to watch birds this forest is the best place to go. The Sholayar forest that connects Kerala and Tamil Nadu is a significant bird sighting place. Often animals like elephants, leopards, sambar and sloth bears could be spotted beside the road. The trip through the road in the middle of the jungle is going to be amazing and adventurous. But night drive is strictly restricted here. As this is a forest area there are only a few hotels available. If you are planning to spend your day here, you’ll have to make your reservations early. Food stalls are also limited here. Don’t forget to take an extra pair of cloth as you are surely going to jump into the water once you reach here.
Once you arrive at Cochin, our cab driver will pick you and take you to Athirapally. Athirapally has the largest waterfall in Kerala. Besides that, you can visit Vazhachal and Chapra falls also. The other attractions in Athirapally include Anakkayam, Thumboormuzhi garden, Malakkapara tea garden, Ezhattumugham, Dams, Abhayaranyam, etc. You can go for trekking near the sides of Athirapally waterfall which is surrounded by forest. Adventure enthusiast could also take a walk through the Sholayar forests. But don’t go beyond the restricted areas. After the day’s visit, check in to your hotel for overnight stay.
After breakfast, you’ll depart for your next adventure- Kettuvallam. This is a houseboat completely made of bamboos held together with coir knots. With furnished bedrooms, kitchen, washrooms, and other facilities, Kettuvallam is a small adorable house on the backwaters. You can check in on a Kettuvallam at 12 pm and check out at 9 am. On the daytime take a ride through the backwater and explore the unscathed beauty of rural Kerala. And spent the night floating on the water in this amazing bamboo home. Food will be served on the houseboat. A trip to gods owns country without a night in the Kettuvallam is actually half-done.
This morning after breakfast our cab driver will take you to the mini metro city of Kerala- Cochin. This city is called the queen of the Arabian Sea. Cochin present before you the remnants from her renowned days as you move through Fort Kochi, Mattancherry Palace, Jewish Synagogue, Jew Town, Old Spice market, St.Francis church, Santa Cruz Basilica, and Chinese Fishing Nets. Kochi has historical as well as the modernized importance since one part of the city is rapidly developing while history resides on the other. After the day’s visit, the cab driver will drop you at the Cochin airport or railway station according to guest departure timings.
